2024.7.19: In a guided meditation, I was led to connect with Babaji’s advice circle. Babaji is a Himalayan yogi and guru, an avatar of Shiva. I asked about how to handle emotions. Someone in the circle said, “drink tea”, and handed me a cup of tea. Another one said, “eat”, then handed me some food. Then someone said, “read”, and handed me some books. I was confused and asked, “aren’t they just bringing distractions, and suppressing the emotions?” Someone answered, “It’s just a matter of choice. Do you really think that your emotions are real? Just like your thoughts and any other things, if all of them are not real, why don’t you choose something that can make you happy and serve you better?”
Late July to early August 2019: Course reading of Introduction to Transpersonal Psychology that Kabat-Zinn discussed about stress response, which is mindfulness-mediated, being conscious in the present, which allows a choice out of awareness, a kind of adaptive coping and is considered to be healthier, and stress reaction, which is automatic, mindless, unconscious, a kind of maladaptive coping. Being aware of any thoughts, emotions, and sensations when they come, can create a pause and breathing time, allowing a choice to respond differently from an automatic reaction. As the process is mindful, thoughts and feelings are not suppressed, but instead it could be an empowering experience. The book chapter perfectly resonated and supported the message given in the experience.
